English is the primary language of instruction in the majority of colleges in Canada. Therefore, international students from countries where the primary language of communication is not English are required to take English language proficiency tests such as IELTS and TOEFL to determine if they have an adequate grasp of the English language. While IELTS and TOEFL are the commonly accepted English proficiency tests in Canada, among others, some colleges also accept Duolingo test results. And we have made a list of the institutions that accept Duolingo English proficiency test results.
But before we move on to the list, let us check out what Duolingo is and some of the benefits of the growing number of colleges and universities accepting Duolingo’s test results.
What is Duolingo?
Duolingo is an application that helps people learn new languages easily. Duo, a green owl, is its official mascot. As Duolingo evaluates candidates on their listening, reading, speaking and writing skills like IELTS and TOEFL, many colleges and universities are starting to accept Duolingo’s English proficiency test too. Moreover, the pandemic made it difficult for many students to access IELTS or TOEFL test centres, leading some universities and colleges to accept Duolingo test results temporarily.
It is great that more universities and colleges are beginning to recognize Duolingo’s test as it is more accessible for students because it is an online test. Its level (easy, moderate, or difficult) can be changed depending on the candidate’s calibre. Moreover, the test results can be shared with universities and colleges within 48 hours. And the best thing about Duolingo’s English proficiency test is that it is absolutely free, unlike the other accepted English proficiency tests.
Requirements for Taking Duolingo Test
